Avalon provides Hearth and Soul and FREE cappuccino! to Detroit
Avalon International Breads proudly launches Hearth and Soul Coffee Bars in partnership with neighbor and fellow local business, Great Lakes Coffee, with a cappuccino giveaway. From 7-11 am on Monday, May 4 at “Avalon on The Boulevard” (in the lobby of Henry Ford Hospital on W. Grand Blvd) and Friday, May 8th at Avalon’s flagship store at 422 W. Willis, Avalon loyal-ists and curious newcomers alike can enjoy free espresso and traditional Italian cappuccinos (American-sized lattes are $.50), featuring Great Lakes Coffee’s new “Hearth and Soul” blend, developed exclusively for Avalon International Breads.
Long considered the “Hearth and Soul” of Detroit and ground zero of the resurgence of “Mid-town,” Avalon is experiencing a resurgence of its own. Two years after the launch of its 50,000 square foot Bakehouse in the “Beltline” district on Detroit’s east side, Avalon is starting a new chapter of its much-loved coffee service.
In addition to introducing Detroit to artisan baked goods made with 100% organic flour in 1997, Avalon was long home of the only espresso machine in the city, importing Italian roasted cof-fees from Seattle and organic coffee from Massachusetts. “After researching new coffee part-ners for months, we found the perfect one in our back yard!” said Avalon co-founder and CEO Jackie Victor. “Great Lakes Coffee brings over two decades of coffee roasting experience and a passion for quality to our staff and our customers. We are excited to not only support a fellow locally-owned business, but reduce our carbon footprint by serving wonderful coffees roasted less than 30 miles away. Partnering with Great Lakes Coffee fulfills both our quest for quality and our triple bottom line (earth, community, employees)”.
Since 1994, The Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company has likewise been a pioneer in the culinary land-scape of Metro Detroit. What began as an importer of Italian-crafted espresso machines and Italian-roasted coffee, quickly expanded into technically advanced coffee roasting operations. With its new store-front just blocks from Avalon, Great Lakes Coffee shares Avalon's passion for the City of Detroit, the local community, and the freshness and purity of its products. "It seemed only fitting that these two Midtown gems should come together in support of each other's values for great food and great community," said Greg Miracle, founder and president of The Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company.
